I am live blogging the election tonight. I will be monitoring blogs, Fox News, MSNBC, CNN and other news sources. I am closely watching key Senate races. Scroll down for updates.
Update 7:46 PM - Allen is slightly ahead in Virginia 50% to 49% with 32% of precincts reporting. With only 3% of the votes counted in Tennesee, Corker leads Ford 54% to 45%. If these results hold, the Republicans have a good chance of holding the Senate. Things do not look as good on the House side. In Tennesee, the vote to define marriage as a union between a man and a woman is running 85% YES to 15% NO.
Update 8:05 PM - Fox News has called Pennsylvania for Bob Casey over Rick Santorum. Sad but not unexpected. Sen. Santorum is a good man and I think we have not heard the last from him. How about VP in 2008? NJ has also been called for the Dems. Over-all a net gain of one for the Dems. Allen still holds a slight lead over Webb with 61% of precincts reporting. Corker still leads Ford.
Update 8:16 PM - Ohio has been called for Sherrod Brown. Dems plus two so far. Allen is hanging on. Corker still leads in Tennesee. Steele in Maryland may be the sleeper.
Update 8:27 PM - CNN has called Connecticut for Joe Lieberman. We'll see how independant Joe will be after being snubbed by the Dems. That's a win for the President who did not support the Republican candidate. Steele leads in Maryland 51% to 41% with votes just being counted. Stay tuned on this one. Just a note - Howard Dean is on Fox News sounding humble. I wonder if he's worried.
Update 8:56 PM - Steele is predicted to lose in MD while Chafee is predicted the loser in R.I. That makes the Dems up three. Va, Tenn. and MO will determine the Senate, if all the projections hold, unless Burns pulls it out in MT. I'm not giving up on Steele. The MD race is almost even with only 6% reporting. Michelle Malkin is reporting on Fox News that bloggers in Ohio believe the TV News projections were made too early. They are not giving up. Hmmm.
Update 9:26 PM -
MO - Jim Talent leads Claire McCaskill 53%-43% in MO with 15% reporting.
TN - Corker still leads Ford with 54% reporting 52%-47%.
VA - 89% reporting and Allen leads by 24,000.
MT and AZ are still out.
The House seems to be lost, but the Senate is very much in play.
Update 10:08 PM - Jon Kyl has pulled ahead in AZ 52% to 45% with 23% reporting. Talent still ahead in MO. Corker is strong in TN. Allen is still hanging on by 30,000 votes with 95% reporting. Steele is ahead of Cardin 50% to 49% with 35% reporting in MD in spite of projections made earlier that he will lose. THIS MAY BE THE UPSET OF THE NIGHT. Michelle Malkin is reporting a similar move.
Update 11:03 PM - Jon Kly is the projected winner in AZ. Talent 51% to 46% in MO, but it is reported that parts of St. Louis are not counted. Corker is up 51%-48% in TN with 87% reporting. VA is too close to call. 99% reporting with Allen ahead by only 2000 votes. There is sure to be a re-count here. The Dems still need to take three more Republican seats to take the Senate. It looks likely the Republicans will hold the Senate and the Dems will take the House. Hello Speaker Pelosi!
Update 11:20 PM - The tide has turned in VA and Allen is down by 2,000 votes with 99% reporting. Steele has faded to be down by 60,000 votes. Talent and Corker are still leading. a 50-50 Senate is possible. We might not know who has the Senate tonight. But one thing is for sure - Congress will remain deadlocked.
Update 12:17 AM 11-08 -06 - MO and MT Senate races look like they will go to the Dems. Allen is down 1700 in VA with most of the votes counted. Save a miracle, the Senate will go to the Democrats. I'm signing off for now. I'll check the final tally in the morning.
